② USEFUL LIFE SAFETY TIPS

【QUAKE! Don’t Let Your Furniture Kill You!!】

Kaguten-taisaku means the safety measures against earthquakes to keep furniture from overturning, falling or moving across the floor. Furniture and home appliances must be secured in place for your safety.

With no Kaguten-taisaku taken, a quake might shake down and let furniture hurt you, start a fire, block ways out...

The furniture overturned, knocked down or moved by quakes account for about 30 to 50 % of the cause of the injuries in recent quakes.

You can find various Kaguten-taisaku steps.

The best way is to put furniture tightly to the wall with L-shaped metal fittings and screws. Or, you can use other devices with no holes made on walls. For example, the poles and the base stoppers/mats come together for bookshelves, making them stable like the “L” fittings would.

In addition, large home centers offer a large choice of stabilizers−with no holes needed on walls.

See your furniture. Think about safety. Get the right items!!
