　航空隊は、空飛ぶ消防隊として、24時間体制で消火・人命救助・情報収集・広報活動等に備えるとともに、国内外の大規模災害発生時には、緊急消防援助隊、国際緊急援助隊として被災者や救助・救援資機材の搬送等の活動を行っています。
　また、救急ヘリコプターとして、都内及び島しょ地域の傷病者に対し、高度な救急処置を継続しながらの搬送活動を行うなど（東京型ドクターヘリを含む。）、その業務は広範囲にわたっています。

As a unit of flying fire companies, the Aviation Unit responds on a 24-hour basis to various emergencies. The unit conducts firefighting, rescue, fact-finding, and public relations. In times of large disasters outside Tokyo, the unit is dispatched to transport victims, rescue equipment and relief goods as members of the Emergency Fire Response Teams domestically, and the International Rescue Team of Japanese Fire Service for overseas disasters. The unit engages in extensive missions with EMS helicopters responding both in Tokyo and to the islands to provide advanced life support care. Some of these aircrafts have doctors on board.

　東京消防庁には９艇の消防艇があり、臨港消防署、高輪消防署及び日本橋消防署に配置されています。東京港の安全を守るため、船舶や沿岸の火災警戒、火災予防査察、消火及び人命救助活動等を行っています。
　また、管轄区域内の河川にも出動、活動しています。

The TFD deploys nine fireboats in Rinko, Takanawa and Nihonbashi fire stations. They perform such activities as the guard against the fires in ships and coastal areas, fire suppression, the rescue on the water and the fire prevention inspection for ships.
They also respond to incidents on the rivers in the TFD's service area.
