火災、交通事故、水難事故、山岳事故などから人命を救うため、高度な知識と専門的な救助技術を持った隊員が各種の救助資機材を装備する車両等とともに、消防救助機動部隊・特別救助隊・水難救助隊・山岳救助隊として、いつでも迅速に活動できる体制をとっています。

  The TFD has the Fire Rescue Task Forces, the Rescue Units, the Mountain Rescue Units, and the Water Rescue Units. The members have advanced knowledge and are trained in specialized rescue techniques to perform quick and effective rescue operations.

　東京消防庁管轄区域外で大規模な災害が発生した場合、要請等に基づき消防隊を派遣し、災害活動の支援を行います。
　平成７年１月の阪神・淡路大震災を契機として、地震など大規模災害時の人命救助活動を効果的に行うため、平成７年６月、全国の消防機関相互による応援救助体制として緊急消防援助隊が発足しました。
　近年では、平成23年3月に発生した東日本大震災に、消防救助機動部隊（ハイパーレスキュー）を中心とした部隊を派遣し、救助活動にあたりました。
　また、海外でも大規模な自然災害等が発生した際には、被災国の要請に基づき国際消防救助隊を派遣し、高度な救助技術等を駆使して国際貢献を果たしています。
　東京消防庁において過去18回の派遣実績があり、最近では平成20年5月に発生した中華人民共和国四川省での地震や、平成21年9月に発生したインドネシア・スマトラ島沖地震、さらに平成23年2月に発生したニュージーランド南島地震にも救助チームを派遣し、献身的な救助活動を行っています。

  The TFD dispatches its units by request to disaster scenes outside its service areas. Following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in January 1995, the government of Japan established the Emergency Fire Response Teams, a national rescue system, in June of that year to provide effective rescue services in times of major earthquakes and other serious disasters.
  Recently, the TFD has dispatched its fire unites, with Fire Rescue Task Forces personnel as “core” rescuers, to the sites affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011.
  When large-scale natural disasters occur overseas, the TFD dispatches members of the International Rescue Team of Japanese Fire Service on request of the country affected by the disaster. They conduct search and rescue, utilizing their expertise and advanced technologies. They play a great role in Japan's international contributions.
  The IRT members of the TFD have been dispatched 18 times so far. This includes the countries/areas hit by great earthquakes, such as in Pakistan in October 2005, Sichuan Province, China in May 2008, Indonesia after the earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in September 2009, and New Zealand South Island in February 2011. The members dedicated themselves to these lifesaving missions.
