Think about Storm and Flood Damage!
In recent years, torrential rains and typhoons occurred nationwide in Japan. Numerous overflowing rivers, large-scale
floods and serious landslides resulted in fatal damage. The announcement of disaster facts failed to urge citizens to take
proper action, and eventually we saw many victims. One of the typhoons, for example, brought about grave electricity
and water stoppage with strong winds. Moreover, it caused river floods with a lot of people victimized, too.
It is important that every Tokyo citizen considers their own escape plan in their environment and region. In May 2019,
the TMG published “Tokyo My Timeline,” the booklet which helps you think of how to escape from floods.
With typhoons and rainstorms in view, “Tokyo My Timeline” is for you to prepare your own to-do list to prevent or
minimize disaster damage. The list, under the scenario of a disastrous weather (ex., a typhoon, heavy rains, etc.), should
be made in the way that you can see when you should do what should be done several days/hours before the outbreak
of a disaster. In an emergency, you are able to prevent (minimize) damage by taking action along the timeline. This idea
is about to be introduced into the disaster prevention plan for each region and municipality. “My Timeline” is the new
achievement with this system in practical use for individuals and their families.
