(29th Fire Chief)

I appreciate your daily special understanding and cooperation in our performing fire service in Tokyo.

With serious natural disasters such as great earthquakes and record torrential rains threatening the world, Tokyo as also likely to have more large-scale natural disasters including a “Tokyo earthquake.” Amid this situation, the Tokyo Fire Department now needs to strengthen its forces, preparing for devastating natural catastrophes. In addition, the ambulance run reached an all-time high last year. With the demand for EMS being on the increase, we also need to enhance our EMS system as immediately as possible.

We are going to create the Safe City for everyone through numerous measures: preparations for a Tokyo inland earthquake and other natural calamities, antiterrorism, the improvement of communities’ disaster response capabilities exactly at the point of the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake 1923, the enhancement of our EMS system, and so on.

We, the 18,600 personnel of the Tokyo Fire Department, join hands, demonstrate our wisdom and professionalism, and respond to your trust. Your continuous support and cooperation would be most appreciated.
